Robert Steel, the chief executive officer of Perella Weinberg Partners, got quite the love note from Lincoln Center.
The recipient of its distinguished service award was called “delightful, delovely and deserving.” He’d helped the performing arts campus raise $3.3 million, so everyone could agree they get a kick out of him. The Cole Porter lyrics weren’t all co-opted. Following the award presentation, there was pure Cole Porter from an array of performers on the stage of Alice Tully Hall, including Juilliard-trained Jon Batiste and Aaron Diehl. Kate Davis sang “Love for Sale," and Luke Hawkins tap-danced.
Using humor, wit, and powerhouse vocals, Liza's Back! (Is Broken) imagines the Broadway career the legendary Liza Minnelli might have had, if she taken on other roles such as Maria in The Sound of Music, Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd, or as Grizabella in Cats. In an astonishing transformation backed by a seven piece band, Trevor recreates the looks, the gowns, the mannerisms and the voice that made Ms. Minnelli a superstar, including some of Liza's biggest hits; "Maybe This Time," "Cabaret" and "Theme from New York, New York," to make for an unforgettable evening. His clever wordplay has the audience doubled over in laughter while his dazzling voice brings the crowd to their feet.
“I'm Still Here" is her anthem, but it would also be accurate to say "We're Still Here" as South Florida music lovers packed the Kravis Center last night for a Maestro Michael Feinstein and Kravis Center Pops Orchestra concert titled First Ladies of Song. Arguably the first lady of song, the incredible Marilyn Maye was Michael's guest in an exciting evening of music as The Kravis Center pulled out all the stops for Marilyn's 90th Birthday.
Steve Cohen Thinks He Can Dance. Lincoln Center Is Ready for Him
A benefit for Lincoln Center, the event Monday night was a good place to pick up some moves -- if not from guests, who stood around schmoozing, then from the scantily-clad, muscular male in a silver headdress and sparkly underwear who gyrated (elegantly, really) to the music of DJ Mia Moretti.
Dolce, and brand partner Stefano Gabbana, count excellent marketing skills among their many talents, and their Alta Sartoria presentation (clocking in at 103 looks, all walked out to the crooning of the legendary Liza Minnelli) was primarily crafted to woo VIP clients—the international ultra-spenders who alighted at Rockefeller Center’s gloriously worn-in Rainbow Room decked to the nines in their Dolce sequins and their Gabbana florals.
